For this Natural Recall project, the idea that I wanted to develop was the promise of a future. When you take care of a plant, even more when that plant is starting to grow from a seed, you are hoping that in a future that little plant will become a leafy tree, or a healthy green plant that makes the atmosphere around you more friendly and comfy. Whatever the reason is that you have a plant, a birthday present from your granny or because you thought it match with the colors of your living room, the only thing that plant asks for you is some water and that a ray of sunshine tickles it. Instead what it can gives to you is exponentially bigger. We can start by saying that that plant can provide you an incredible view of floral colors, delicious fruits, clean air or bid shadow in the backyard of your house where you can lie down and read a book.
The technique that I use in this illustration was instant coffee and watercolor on cotton paper. I found the use of these materials very consistent with the project, because the instant coffee is derived from brewed coffee beans witch is a plant. With that my work is summarized, if you take care of a plant, it promises you to return the favor in the future.
My name is Guillermina García Avila and I’m 25 years old. I was burn in one of the biggest and most populated cities in the World, Mexico City. Because I live in such a big city with so little vegetation, since I was a child I had always been fascinated by nature: plants, animals and their environmental care. I found out about nature by looking at cartoons, some documentaries and illustrated books, and those materials were the ones that brought me to a new and more passionate discovery: the world of Art and Craft. That is how I end up studying Design and Visual Communication in the Faculty of Arts and Design of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. I have work in some design studios as a graphic designer and illustrator, and in some educational projects about evolution and other projects concerning sport, more specificly archery. This last topic, archery, is an other important part of my life since I am an Archery Judge. Finally, let me end this short text by writing two things that I will love to do in the future. The first one is to participate in the creation of a stop motion film; and the second one is to participate as an archery judge in the Olympic Games.
