Lila is the divine play. The play of the cosmos as it manifests itself. Lila is the transformation of unconscious matter to conscious beings. It is a continual revolution, an unending rhythm of life, death and rebirth, of creation, destruction and recreation.
Lila, is also my daughter. She is the magic that I helped create. Her creation within me brought me closer to Nature herself. In the haze of the days of pregnancy, while the little one was growing within, I was drawn to the Water Lilies in my garden. Beautiful and ethereal, everyday they would dance to their own rhythm. When the world would turn in, deep in the night, they would bloom, coming into their fullest glory in the early morning light. As the heat invaded with the growing day, they would curl back into themselves. Each water lily played this game of hide and seek with
a few sunrises. Then, as the flower’s life drew to its end, it would gracefully retire into the water completely, giving birth to new ones in its place.
This dance, this lila of the water lilies brought me immense delight. I watched their beauty unfolding and folding back everyday. With the months, my own body morphed, my little seed within grew and I felt myself unfold. Was
it my imagination, or did the water lilies reciprocate the tenderness I felt for them and the child within? I will never know. But, the day that Lila was born, there was a new lily in the pond.
Lily’s Lila celebrates the magic of the lifecycle, the lila of birth, the fusion of non living matter to create conscious beings…a water lily…a little girl.
