The Earth’s Oldest Tree
„For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver. (Martin Luther)“ – this quote inspired me to create an infographic about the oldest tress on Earth.
The infographic communicated 3 facts: Name, age and location of the Earth‘s oldest trees. The list has a shape of a tree and the background is green – this gives an idea of the infographic‘s topic at first glance (Green = Nature). The oldest trees are at the top of the list and the younger ones at the bottom. To give the connection lines a better balance I decided to switch positions of West and East, showing the american continent on the right hand side.
The Earth’s Oldest Trees and was created in 2010 as one of about 100 different artworks for Michael Paukner’s free design project See The Bigger Picture – this poster series goes beyond the usual function of the form: each layout is approached as an editorial piece communicating bits of factual and spiritual information. It’s all about stunning mysteries, mindblowing facts of science and history. The range of these artworks is profound but the style remains the same: clean, elegant, and, above all, informative.
My name is Michael Paukner and I‘m a Graphic & Information Designer living in Vienna, Austria. I‘m 34 years old and I‘ve been working as a freelance designer for the last 12 years. I‘ve been specializing in information design since 2009. What I love about my job as a designer is the variety of tasks – finding the right visual solution for different clients. I love conceptual thinking and I‘m obsessed with construction grids. I believe that simple geometry is the basis for good design and that Rock‘N‘Roll can save the world. My love for art and design affects all aspects of my life – I just love beautiful things.
