Midnight Secret Garden
My piece focuses not just on my affinity with one plant but rather on my connection with a physical space of living plants – a garden. For me, gardens provide the most magical atmospheres of peace and tranquility, and energy through the living organisms. It seemed natural to include some of the entities drawn to places like this, and I chose to illustrate flowers, birds and leaves, and some plants to represent the space. I chose a darker, non-traditional colour palette to further push the idea of fantasy and non-realism, and also to introduce the concept of midnight, a time where these special places are truly transformed. The animals and plants I included are random – I did not intend to put focus on any specific region or species but maintain a general theme.’
I was born in Brisbane, Australia and after living in England and Canada, I am currently residing by the sea in Melbourne. I’m a 25 year old graphic designer but my passion is illustration and surface pattern design. I am inspired by nature, animals, travel, space and sunshine.
