Pensamiento / Thought
Toughts are flowing in my head while i draw plants. Every single branch, leave or flower appear on the paper sheet while i surf in my head. Plants are an aestethic experience, a good example of beauty, balance and proportion so they are a good way of graphi- cally organize my toughts. They work for me as a ‘grid’, or even better: ‘an excuse’ for translating what i’m feeling and thinking in a precise moment, as if i where making a protrait of my particu- lar situation and the result is always a plant…since ever is been a plant and i don’t know why but i guess it is maybe cause i’ve always admired and love them as well.
My name is Santiago Guevara. I was born in a small town in Colombia, where my parents lived at the time. My family and I moved to the capi- tal city of Bogotá when I was one year old, and I have been living here for the past 23 years.
I developed a passion for drawing as a child, relating to everything through images. What began as a fascination with cartoon characters on cereal boxes became my way of discovering the world. Fortunately, my parents always supported me, and I was able to attend different children’s workshops. It was through these workshops that I was first exposed to art history.
I had no doubt that I wanted to study something related to Graphic Arts. I began studying Visual Arts at Universidad Javeriana, and then transferred to Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano to study Graphic De- sign, where I graduated in 2012.
Through my experiences, I found my main work to be illustration. I participate in fine arts projects from time to time as well, always fin- ding ways to pursue my passion of drawing. I have discovered that the subjects of nature, portraits, animals are what I find most enjoyable and satisfying. My aim is to leave a trace of the human hand, with all of its particularities and imperfections, on the work that I make to serve as a witness to the human soul.
